My First Journey Outside of Puerto Rico

Nǐ hǎo Blogger! So last September I went on my first trip outside of Puerto Rico (about darn time). The trip was to Florida. The purpose? To visit the happiest place on earth of course, Disney World! I went with 5 nephews, 2 sisters, my brother in law and my mom (my dad decided to stay). I gotta admit I was REALLY excited at first, but when the big day came my excitement was dampened by the fact that I was going to go for a whole week and I had class... I'm really serious about my studies and the fact that I was going to neglect them for a whole week made me nervous; specially because I was taking Chemistry PSI (Personalized System of Instruction). Basically I had to take an exam each week and finish 13 exams by the end of the semester, I believe I was on my 3rd exam... It was nerve wracking, but I tried to not think about it as best I could. Back to the trip~

I got on the plane and waited anxiously for it to take off, I was in charge of my nephew (who is the cutest thing you could ever lay your eyes on) so I had him on my lap for the whole plane trip. Finally we take off and I was really nervous, because I'm kind of scared of heights and I had actually fought for the window seat. I regretted it at first, but then I saw the clouds and I was in awe.

Picture taken by me during the flight (not trying to promote jet blue lol)

I basically was stuck to the window watching the pretty clouds like a little kid for the whole 2 hours of flight. We reach land, get our rental van and head on to our temporary home. On the way to our house I observed everything and I gotta say that the fact that the weather is really similar to Puerto Rico's actually influenced the fact that I didn't see much of a difference (besides the ENORMOUS amount of stores, specially souvenir shops). We get to our new home and the place is beautiful (I saw SQUIRRELS!!!). We settled in, ate and then went to sleep because for the next few days we were going to a few Disney Parks so we needed all the energy we can get.

We went to Magic Kingdom, Universal Studios, Island of Adventures, among others. I'm not going to go into detail, but I basically behaved like a little kid. I ran around the parks, I often got left behind because I just stopped and stared at things, I was taking pictures like crazy and I went on all the rides I could.

(a collage of various photos I took)

The most uncomfortable experience of the whole trip happened at Universal Studios. That morning everyone in the house was getting ready to head out to the park and I had gone to sleep late the night before. Naturally, I overslept... So my family wakes me up and tells me to hurry up and get dressed; I was half-asleep so I rushed and put on the first clothes I could find. I was sleepy in the van from our house to the park. When we arrive at the park and are entering through the gates where they check your bags and whatnot I notice that the woman taking out tickets stops and stares at my shirt, then sort of looks at me with a "WTF" face and I thought nothing of it. When I enter the park I sort of gave it more thought and I analyzed my shirt... only to realize that I wore a completely inappropriate shirt for this park. The only thing that was going through my head was "OMG I'm gonna have to be shirtless for the rest of this outing!". I got over it and had a great time at the park.

It was a pretty amazing journey and I had an awesome time, but it taught me a few things. The first things that it thought me was that I should be a bit more confident in my ability to understand and speak english because honestly I barely spoke it because I was insecure of my accent (which is natural to have). Second is if you see something weird in the handrail of some stairs don't freaking try to figure out what it is. This second lesson was courtesy of my mother who saw some black things under the handrail and promptly closed in to look at them, they turned out to be wasps. She got stung in the back and proceeded to ask me to bite and suck the poison out (I didn't do it obviously)... Last and most importantly, ALWAYS watch what you wear to a kid's park.

PS. For those of you curious about the shirt... This is it...
